We made the long 23 hour road trip to Letterkenny, Co Donegal on Friday 11th May for the Beo Ireland Finals. We were one of six schools selected for the final. The six schools were Gaelcholáiste Chill Dara, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Co Donegal, Grennan College, Thomastown, Pobalscoil na Rosann, Co Donegal, Bridgetown Vocational College, Co. Wexford and St Columba’s College, Co Donegal.
Our students gave a ten minute presentation to the panel of judges on how they organised, promoted and ran their Bridgetown’s Beo Rockfest followed by a questions and answers sessions with the panel. The panel of judges included: Jackie Hayden from Hotpress, Mary O’ Hagan from Today FM, Cian Mc Carthy from Radió na Life & The Dirty 9s, Paddy Mc Kenna from 2fm & Storyfold and Brian Fisher from Practice Make Perfect. After all the schools had given their presentations, there was a talk about the music industry given by Jackie Hayden and Paddy McKenna, followed by a concert with included: Jamican Vampires, The Dirty 9s, Storyfold & More Than Conquerors. The winners were announced at 9.30pm and I am delighted to say that Bridgetown Vocational College, Bridgetown, Co Wexford are the winners. We take home a Beo trophy and a cheque for €5000. The students and teachers are thrilled with the win. Teachers involved: Ms. Creevey, Ms. Toomey and Ms. Walsh.
